Bullfighter pass

AKA Toreando pass

During Saturday’s kids class the drill was how to pass open guard with the bullfighter pass.

When your opponent is trying to stop you from passing using open guard this is a go to move. A move used when attempting to pass open guard and avoid being put in close guard.

One effective way to pass open guard, is by grabbing the bottom of the opponents pants then pull the legs up, take a little step back, throw the legs away from the direction your passing, then step to the side, and either get side mount, knee on belly, or get mount.

It’s similar to a bull fighting movement. What a toreador does when the bull charges at the red cape. It’s a move I try to use when I don’t want to be put in closed guard. It’s an effective move that should be used in Jiu Jitsu naturally.

“It’s as real as it can get. That has made me a better person. It’s made me a better man. It’s made me understand myself, my weaknesses, my strengths, the shit I need to work on. Jiu-jitsu has been one of the most valuable tools I’ve ever had in my life.”
