Overtime! Is it worth it?

It’s Friday, excited your work week is over and looking forward to the weekend, but before you walk out of the office your boss tells you, “I need you to work this weekend!”

My opinion on working overtime, “to choose or not to choose to work overtime?”

Me at my desk doing paperwork.

Is it worth the time?

I can always use extra money, but I also can use a break from the stress as well. If your like me and have children or just a child, that’s time taken away from them. Time you can’t replace.

Don’t get me wrong extra money is a good thing, but money comes and goes, unlike time. Once time passes it’s gone forever. Do you really want to loose time, for work?

The children

Before I had children it wasn’t a problem, but now at times it is. I love spending my free time with them and cherish every second that I can. I always ask myself, “do I want extra money or do I want to be with my family?”

That’s an easy choice, family always comes first! One thing I’ve learned is, my children are my heart and soul. Sometimes your time and presence is all that matters.

Get money, lose time.

Money may buy fancy things, pay the bills, put food on the table, clothes, and shoes. Yet, its replaceable. With time, once it has passed, it’s gone. Time isn’t something that waits for you, it constantly keeps going forward, its irreplaceable.

Trust me, I may not have alot of money, even if people might think I do. I’m broker than the next guy. I’m just an average guy who feels money isn’t the most important thing in life, my children are.

Mind, body, and family

I choose the love and memories with my family. That is something, I can’t put a price on. The memories and moments I get to make with my family is the most important thing to me, it’s priceless!

Working all the time puts a wear on your body. Think of your body as a car, the more you use it there’s a chance it might break down.

I’m not saying, “don’t do it.” I just feel you shouldn’t do too much or over stress your body. People who work a lot of overtime has a 10 percent more chance of getting a heart attack than a person who doesn’t do overtime.

Work is something we need in order to make money and provide for the family, I understand that. Also, you can’t provide, if your mind and body isn’t healthy and properly being taken care of. For now, I want to enjoy my life before I get to old and regret not doing so.

Saturday work day.

While they are young

With my children being at a young age, they’re always looking for me and want me to take them places. They always look for attention and that’s what I intend to give them, because I know when they get older, the less time they will want to spend with me.

So maybe when that starts happening, I would spend more time at work with the extra free time I’ll have. That’s far from now, but eventually that day will come..

Final thought

When your low on cash overtime is a great way to make extra money. It will always make you look good at work too, it shows your reliable, but if it’s at the expense of losing much needed time with the ones who need you around and you loose much needed rest. Is it worth it?

So if you need the money, work has to be your priority. If don’t really need the money, you’re tired, stressed out, been to busy, and have not spent time with the ones you care and love, I personally won’t do it. My priority will always be my family, but unfortunately…Today I have to do it.
