National Maritime Day!

200 hundred years ago a steamship built in 1818 named SS Savannah sailed from the United States to England. This was the first successful crossing of the Atlantic Ocean using a steam powered ship. It sailed from May to June 1819.

National Maritime Day. A day to pay special tribute to the benefits that Maritime industry provides for the United States as well as people who served as merchant mariners, U.S Coast Guards, U.S Marines, U.S Navy and the maritime industry as a whole..

May 20, 1933 Congress declared May 22 as National Maritime Day. On May 22, 2002, the Military Sealift Command observed National Maritime Day with a memorial service held in Washington, DC.

The day is celebrated with activities, events, and special celebrations. look up maritime events near you, and there is also a World Maritime Day which is on September 26, 2019.

To all the seafaring people whether commercial or military, and the coastal area, Happy Maritime Day!
